About Creative Exchange 

Creative Exchange was established by a group of artists in East Belfast in 1996 and in the intervening years has contributed to the history, culture, economy and creativity of its locality.



Creative Exchange seeks to provide affordable working space for the artistic community, particularly in East Belfast, whilst providing a programme of opportunities for artists to prioritise their practice, develop professionally, engage with communities, raise both individual and collective profiles, and contribute to the sectoral infrastructure in East Belfast and beyond – regionally, nationally and internationally.

Creative Exchange is funded by Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The organisation is a member of Arts & Business Northern Ireland. Creative Exchange Artists' Studios is a registered charity: 101590.

Who We Are

Creative Exchange Artists' Studios is managed by an active board, with activities supported and delivered by a Studio Administrator.

Studio Administrator

Lisa Malone has over ten years experience in Arts administration within charitable organisations - She has also served on the Board of Directors for Flax Art Studios from 2014-2019.

Having completed a BA Fine and Applied Art at Art the University of Ulster she has taken part in residencies in New York, the Banff Centre in Canada, the Digital Arts Studios in Belfast. Her work has been exhibited both in Ireland and internationally.

She has also delivered a broad range of workshops and participatory events with galleries, museums and various schools and community groups.

Creative Exchange Board Members

Deirdre Morrissey, Chair

Deirdre has extensive experience working with artists led initiatives for over 10 years. She received a BA In Fine Art from Dublin Institute of Technology and MA in Visual Art Practices from DLIADT. (Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology) She was a co-founder and co-director of artists studios 'The Market Studios' Dublin from 2008 – 2014, managing the studios and exhibition programme. Following the closure of The Market Studios, Deirdre moved to Belfast where she joined Platform Arts as a co-director and then took up the position of administrator at Creative Exchange Artists’ Studios. She was awarded Dublin City Council’s Emerging Curator Award in 2011 and has curated a number of independent projects ; most recently The Expanded Studio Project 2019 between Primary Studios, Nottingham and PS2 Belfast. Deirdre currently works for registered charity Business in the Community who support and challenge NI businesses on their corporate responsibility.


Chris Armstrong, Organisational Development Adviser

Chris has over ten years’ experience in the tourism and leisure market and in 2016 founded east Belfast based tourism-led regeneration company, EastSide Tourism. Prior to this, Chris was integral in the development of Northern Ireland’s first official mountain bike trails in Belfast, the Sperrins and the Mourne Mountains. Chris currently co-Chairs the Belfast Local Tourism Stakeholder Forum and is coordinating the delivery of the EastSide Destination Development Plan 2019 – 2021.


Patricia Kingston, Secretary

Patricia currently coordinates all corporate and industry events for Tourism Northern Ireland, and has been working in event management within the NI tourism sector for over 10 years.  Within this role she has had the pleasure of mentoring placement students in corporate events management and tourism since 2013, and was awarded Ulster University Impact Excellence Awards Placement Employer of the Year award in 2018.

Prior to taking up her role at Tourism NI, Patricia studied at Queen’s University Belfast, graduating with a Bachelor of Science honours degree in Pure and Applied Mathematics.  She then completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Management through the Première Graduate Programme and worked as an account overview officer within the anti-fraud and money laundering team at Northern Bank (Now Danske Bank). Patricia is passionate about helping Northern Ireland put its best foot forward via delivering development programmes for the local tourism industry, encouraging them to aspire to become best in class in all they do.

Chris Fetherston, Treasurer, 

Chris has been in the telecommunications industry since 2001. During this time, he has worked for large independents, blue chip companies and starts-ups, one of which he is now a Director and shareholder of Standard Utilities. He has gathered valuable experience and knowledge in aspects of sales, governance, operations and finance. Chris joined the board of Creative Exchange in 2017 following years working with arts organisations professionally and realising that his business experience could really add value as a board member. Outside of work, Chris enjoys walking with his dogs, holidays with his family and playing golf.
